A Day No Pigs Would Die
Robert Newton Peck

Another reaction to the story I am reading was surprised and hurt inside because Rob's dad wanted weasels to stop killing their hens. So, he wanted a dog to kill the weasels. They put a weasel and a dog in a barrel so the weasel would get killed. The section when the dog gets put in a barrel with the weasel reminds me of a death or dying of a loved one because when they open the barrel they see the weasel dead, but the dog's ear is bleeding and her paw is chewed up. So, they didn't want to let the dog suffer so they shot her. Rob's dad said he would never want another dog to die even if all his hens got killed. I think the relationship between Rob's father and Rob is interesting because Rob thought the idea of putting the dog with the weasel was a bad idea, while Rob's dad just wanted the weasels to be killed. The ideas here remind me of ideas in a nonfiction book because the events seem almost true and real. I believe the author's message is that you should appreciate what you have because Rob appreciates what he has and is thankful. I like Rob because he is a hardworking character. Rob's mother is the character I admire most because she is sweet and nice. If I were Rob's father at this point I would strongly believe in Rob and always trust and listen to him no matter what. The situation of the dog that had to be shot reminds me of a similar situation in my own life. It happened when my old dog was really sick and my neighbor came over to help and his wife took us out for ice cream when I was little, but he died and didn't get shot. I think this book will end when Rob's pig will die after all that raising he did for him. If I could become any character in this book, I would be Rob because I love pigs, I want one, and I would like to raise a cute pig like he is.
